Benfica confirmed that they had sold striker Darwin Nunez to Liverpool. Striker Darwin Nunez to Liverpool, the Premier League club, is beating out Manchester United for the Uruguayan international. The report claims that Benfica forward Darwin Nunez is ready for action this summer.
Liverpool is now starting moves in an attempt to either take over from Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton or reported Tottenham Target Richarlison for Everton’s Benfica star in the summer transfer window. As well as wanting to pay a hefty fee for Calvert-Lewin or Spurs target Richarlison, Liverpool is also expected to look at signing replacements and consider moving for a Benfica striker.
Manchester United are thought to have made a last-ditch effort to sign Darwin Nunez, having agreed on personal terms with Benfica. Still, the Benfica forward preferred the prospect of Champions League football. Benfica forward Darwin Nunez scored 34 times in all competitions last season for Benfica, including goals in both legs of Benfica’s Champions League quarter-final loss against Liverpool in April. Nunez scored six goals for Benfica in Benfica’s run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League while being Portugal’s top goalscorer in Liga NOS with 32.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports, Benfica received an official bid of EUR80m (PS 67.9m/$84.3m), plus additional fees, from Liverpool for Nunez. Liverpool is said to have increased interest in Leeds United winger Raphinha this summer and may be using Japanese international Takumi Minamino in a player-plus-cash deal to land the Brazilian. The Mirror reports manager Jurgen Klopp is a massive admirer of Leeds United wide-man Raphinha. Their attributes match Liverpool’s needs in looking to replace prolific Sadio Mane this summer.
Rumours have been circulating recently about a potential arrival at Anfield, particularly as star man Mane has indicated his intentions to leave Liverpool this summer, having spent six years with the club. Liverpool is on the market for attacking players this summer, with key man Sadio Mane set to leave and the uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at the club.
With Sadio Mane set to depart, Roberto Firmino declining, and Manchester City plugging their gaping hole in an attack by acquiring the superb Erling Haaland, Liverpool will need Darwin Nunez to work quickly. It is an excellent business from Liverpool, having already used Benfica for Luis Diaz, a massive move to Liverpool that an attacker deserves. Striker Darwin Nunez is going to be Liverpool’s latest attacking acquisition, with Jurgen Klopp continuing his re-building of the attacking areas after Luis Diaz and Fabio Carvalho arrived over the past six months.
